The Driving Test

All learners always ask what happens on the day of their test, below is a brief summary of what will happen on the big day.

You will arrive at the local test centre just before your test time and park in one of the parking bays provided. You will then take a seat in the waiting area and at your test time a DSA examiner will come out to meet you.

Kings Lynn Test Centre
Once the examiner has checked your licence and theory certificate you will lead the way to your car where they will check your eyesight by getting you to read a vehicle registration plate from a distance of 20.5 metres (67 feet). Then you will be asked two questions about maintenance of the vehicle. Please read our Show Me Tell Me page as we have a full list of the questions for you to download and print out and go over with your instructor. Once you have answered these questions its seatbelts on and you are ready to go.
Smart Pass Intensive The driving test itself lasts between 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. In this time you will deal with various road and traffic conditions and be asked to carry out two manoeuvres and possibly an emergency stop. These will be the same as what you have been practising with your instructor.
To pass the test you must incur 15 or less minor driving faults. Just one serious (major) or dangerous fault will result in a failure. Any marks you do incur will be marked on the driving test sheet(DL25) the examiner will always explain to you, how and where you got them at the end of the test. You will be given a copy of the test sheet yourself to keep.
Keep hold of this as your instructor can look at this and plan any futher training that may be needed for you to gain success.
